I’m moving to San Jose this summer. By the time I move, I will have 8 years experience in hospital inpatient pharmacy. I am also nationally certified now. What is a reasonable amount to ask for when filling out applications? Right now I live in Mississippi and am only making about $12.50 an hour after adding my shift differential. Everywhere I have looked online has given me a different amount ranging from $8 an hour to $72,000 a year. I assume neither is correct. If anyone has any suggestions on what is a fair amount to ask, I would be very grateful.

My guess it should be around $20 an hour in being a hospital pharm tech with 8 years of experience in California. You’re making an awfully low salary for your position in general.

try going to salary.com and seeing what the baseline salary for tech’s are in san jose. It also makes a difference if you are going to be doing hospital or retail. I am in retail, my last employer paid me 12.50 per hour and prior to that I made 15 an hour. I am now making 11 an hour. Try calling a few pharmacies and see what the going tech rate is. You will usually make a little more having been a tech already and being certified.

If you can make 72,000 as a tech, I need to move to San Jose. 8-12.50/hr sounds closer to reality 72k would be around 36/hr, and your dreaming if you think there is a technician in america that makes that kind of money without working 24 hours/ 5days/week. Not likely.
